Within the LFX
The new Cadillac SRX LFX 3.6L direct injection V-6 delivers a SAE-certified 308 hp (230 kW) and 265 lb.-ft. of torque (359 Nm), with an efficiency-boosting features, including direct injection and distribution continuously variable valve timing. The maximum torque is reached at only 2400 rpm and is maintained through 5300 rpm. The LFX is also E85-capable.
"The development team challenged to reach 300 horsepower and SRX, and exceeded the target," says Liz Pilibosian, chief engineer. "Low-end power and torque 3.6L produces a greater demand for power of the launch, the slopes steep, and passing. LFX Power class is the engine also seems to contribute to a better change. "
LFX is a technologically advanced engine 60-degree V-6 with dual overhead camshaft, continuously variable valve timing and direct injection. Supporting the troops, contribute to its performance, refinement and durability are as follows:
• The cylinder block and cylinder heads are of lightweight aluminum.
• composite intake manifold saves about 5.5 pounds (2.5 kg) the weight of a comparable aluminum intake. It also has a relatively low radiation power of surface, so that it maintains its excellent noise and vibration characteristics.
• integrated into the cylinder head / exhaust manifold design saves about 13 lbs (6 kg) per engine than an engine comparable to separate the head / exhaust manifold assemblies.
• The cylinder heads with four valves per cylinder, with a design that features dual overhead camshafts infinitely variable cam.
• A forged steel crankshaft provides maximum strength at the lower end, while the connecting rods are made of metal powder that contains a large proportion of copper, making them stronger and allows them to become brighter.
• Pistons are made of lightweight aluminum and feature friction-reducing polymer coating on skirts and floating pins, which also helps to reduce friction. Less weight means less piston back and forth to the engine, which in turn means less inertia and greater operating efficiency.
• Pressure activated spurts of oil from the bottom of each piston soft and the wall surrounding the cylinder with a layer of cooling, friction-reducing oil.
• A cast aluminum pan is stiffer to improve powertrain rigidity and reduce vehicle vibration. The screws of the bell of the transmission and the engine block, eliminating points of vibration. Cast aluminum dampens internal engine noise than conventional stamped steel pan and has a more rigid structure.
• Optimization of fuel injectors and the flow integrated exhaust manifold / cylinder heads encourage lower emissions.
To help them achieve their performance goals, the engineers at Cadillac SRX has redesigned the exhaust system with engine runners turn a collection point further back in the vehicle. The diameter and length of the pipes have been specially optimized to improve low-end torque of 1200-3000 rpm.
Pulses of high pressure exhaust of each engine cylinder are timed to arrive at the collection point for all the phase accurately. This setting effect, which is literally called out the analysis engine exhaust timing pulses of high and low pressure of each cylinder. Maximum torque is now produced in a very low 2400 rpm and stays high over 5300 rpm. Improvements in torque and power is achieved by maintaining quiet operation.
"Nothing has been left to chance when it comes to optimizing airflow LFX, from the moment it enters the engine until it is thrown in the quiet," he Pilibosian said. "The extraordinary qualities of air allows us to exceed the targets 300 horsepower, while the attention of the calibration system, dual continuously variable exhaust valve timing system and contribute to major engine torque at low revs."
LFX engine combines with Hydra-Matic 6T70 electronically controlled six-speed automatic with tap up / tap down on the driver's control. No overall relationship between the spread of 6.04:1 allows map "steep" first gear as well as 'long' overdrive top low rpm highway cruising. Acceleration is maximized, such as fuel economy. The engine noise is also lower during cruising. With the spread of the aspect ratio (6.04:1), first gear is a very high percentage, stopped offering brisk acceleration. The sixth, however, has overdrive, which keeps the revs as low as possible for highway driving and navigation, to reduce engine friction losses and improve fuel economy.
A driver-selectable feature modifies Eco crossing points of the 6T70 to improve fuel economy up to 1 mile per gallon. A clutch was added to the variable displacement compressor air conditioning air to improve fuel economy. The compressor runs only when needed and offers no resistance when turned off.
Chassis and suspension
The Cadillac SRX is a four-wheel independent suspension and a standard rack and pinion hydraulic steering system - and offers an effort variable speed-sensitive steering system - with adjustment for biased sports sedan driving style and high on the center -feel. The StabiliTrak stability control electronics is standard and works with the standard brake system four-wheel-disc/four-channel-ABS.
The essential elements of chassis systems and suspension are:
• An independent MacPherson strut leg is standard on all models, with a direct-acting stabilizer bar and hydraulic bushings.
• An "independent H-arm" rear suspension includes a light hollow arms control and a lower aluminum hollow stabilizer bar.
• Power-assisted rack and pinion steering is standard on the basis of collections of luxury.
• More variable effort, and speed-sensitive rack and pinion steering is standard on the performance and premium collections.
• A rear axle ratio of 3.39 is standard on all models.
• trailer are available Luxury package, Premium Collections and more performance and towing capacity is 3500 pounds (1587 kilograms).
For the year 2012, the base suspension provides more comfort driving, maintaining excellent driving characteristics, thanks to new support cushion in the pocket, the control valve shocks, new bushings glued to the front stabilizer bar, and new galleries twin-tube rear shocks that offer more road isolation.
Active sports suspension - standard on the performance and premium collections - will also improve for the year 2012, a new front strut mounts higher, new valves, shock absorbers, stabilizer bar bushings glued and revised suspension calibration for this real-time variable damping. Electronically controlled shock absorbers at each corner "read" the road constantly make changes in real time in milliseconds. They offer just the right damper interest in all road conditions, more comfort and more of a sense of control. It also increases the absorption during treatment of aggressive measures to reduce the rate of roll and pitch speed of the vehicle feel more confident.
Cadillac SRX is offered with all-wheel drive system that includes an electronic limited slip (eLSD) rear differential. It not only improves traction in slippery road conditions, but from side to side along transfer torque to the rear axle to improve control in hard cornering. It was developed in partnership with Haldex, a leader in all-wheel drive and the technology eLSD AWD system to distribute torque front to rear axle, and also from left to right above the rear axle, sending power to the wheel with the most traction.
